Children’s Hearing Tests

Depending on the developmental age of your child, different types of hearing tests may be suitable. Young children, or children with additional needs will require two testers. Some older children and teenagers will only require only one tester. Where possible, all children will have their ears looked into with an otoscope (otoscopy) and the overall health of their outer and middle ear assessed with tympanometry. We will usually start the appointment with a full history regarding your child, family and hearing.

Your audiologist will make a judgement in the appointment what type of hearing test is suitable (in terms of developmental readiness), but the following is available as a guide:
