The Importance of Hearing Aid Aftercare

Research has shown that whether hearing aids are obtained privately or via the NHS, people underestimate the true value of good aftercare service. Those who have had a hearing aid before understand the importance of maintaining the hearing aid itself; alongside discovering what a hearing aid could do for them.

At Tracy James Hearing we believe that high quality aftercare is just as important as the device itself. This is because we want to ensure that your hearing aid continues to work at its best for you throughout it’s lifetime. Factors that need to be checked include your hearing, your device, ensuring routine maintenance and replacement parts or considerations around your ear health.

Here are some more details in a nutshell:

  • We look after our clients hearing aids under warranty for 5 years, but not all providers do. Some manufacturers only give a 2-year warranty. (Aftercare typically lasts between 2-5 years)

  • Regular clean and checks avoid drops in performance due to blockages or moisture, to ensure that you are always hearing optimally.

  • We look after you as well, as highly experienced audiologists we know the importance of a holistic personalised approach. So we look after you as a person as well as your hearing throughout your time with us. We will also often work alongside your family and significant others in the process, if required.

  • We offer free in clinic wax removals to all our hearing aid clients.

  • We support you if your hearing changes. Your hearing aid will be adjusted over time as and when needed. You will also receive our specialist advice and be provided with referrals regarding future ear care or ear health needs as required

Good aftercare means that you are called back a few times a year, to check any potential issues with your hearing aid and prevent them before they become a problem. The last thing you want is to have your family over for an important event and the hearing aid not working properly.

Being truthful about the challenges that having a hearing aid brings is important as we know that good discussions about their pro and cons and the realities with both the hearing aid wearer and the family mean a more satisfied outcome for all. ( Oosthuizen et al 2022; and Picou E, 2020)
