How to use Hearing Devices with an iPhone

Who watched Good Morning Britain on Wednesday 19th February?

If you did then you may have seen Tasha Ghouri (from love island and Strictly Come Dancing fame) talk about how you can use your iphone to enhance your hearing.

Tasha has a cochlear implant and in her interview she talks about (in her case) how she hears through her implant and not her ears, she goes on to speak about how she can pair bluetooth to her iphone to enhance her hearing aid user experience.

Check out the full interview below

However, it is not just those with cochlear implants who can benefit from connecting their aids to their phones, there are many other hearing aid devices that can also provide the same service.

Here are 5 useful facts for you to know

1) All modern hearing aids can be paired with all modern iPhones.

2) All of the hearing aids that we supply at Tracy James Hearing can be connected directly via Bluetooth to your mobile phone. (some small hidden completely in the canal aids are the exception. They will connect via Bluetooth but with some versions of them you cannot stream)

3) Some NHS aids will also have this facility but not all. For those that don’t, the hearing aid app on your phone will act as a remote control for your hearing aid.

4) iPhones have a ‘LIVE LISTEN’ app that can turn the microphone on your iPhone into a microphone that streams into your hearing aid. (this is found under accessibility options in your iPhone settings or you will see a picture of an ear when you triple click on your side buttons to bring up your accessibility options quickly.)

5) If you don’t have an iPhone but another brand of smart phone then a mini microphone/lapel mic can be bought and used instead (this will have a better sound quality than the Live Listen)
