Tracy James Hearing
Independent Audiology.
Personalised Hearing Care
At Tracy James Hearing (TJH) in Newbury, Berkshire we pride ourselves on our personal approach and quality of care. We believe that this is one of the key things that sets us apart from well-known high street hearing care companies. Being completely independent, we offer an extensive range of hearing aids from a variety of manufacturers, rather than being tied to just one or two suppliers. We strive for one audiologist to work with you and the support around you, all the way through your hearing and ear care pathway. We’ve worked with many of our clients for years, and that’s how it should be…
Tracy James and Louise Hart both bring over 20 years of audiology experience, working in both private and NHS audiology services, and specialising in adult hearing care and children’s hearing services. We provide services for individuals with hearing loss (or suspected hearing loss), including those with more complex health and hearing needs, such as dementia, APD, general development disorders and tinnitus.
OUR CORE VALUES
-
We are here to listen and take our time to ensure we get things right for you, and we welcome working alongside significant others or health professionals as part of the process. We provide long appointment times appropriate for the level of detail or care required. We try to ensure you see the same audiologist over time to ensure consistency and to develop a strong relationship.
-
We are an independent family-run business and are not commercially advantaged by selling one particular hearing aid manufacturer over another. We believe in providing choice from the whole market, so that we can choose the right fit for your hearing, your needs and choices. No staff member earns commission.
-
We have been supplying and supporting children and adults with hearing aids since 2014. Most of our hearing aids come with a 5-year warranty, and we will support you for the lifetime of your hearing aid - even once the warranty ends. If you experience change in your hearing or ear-care needs, we will adjust your hearing aids over time and manage your ear health.
-
Our aftercare service is there to ensure that you’re able to get the most out of your hearing and hearing care device over time. All hearing aid devices will need repairs or in-house maintenance over time. We encourage 6-monthly clean and checks and we offer free wax removal to our hearing aid clients.
-
If you have an ongoing medical difficulty with your ears, or hearing, and have been told that hearing aids are not right for you - come and see us, we may be able to find a diagnosis and/or a solution. We can also refer onwards, if necessary, to get you the help you need. We are skilled and experienced and provide hearing services to adults with dementia or learning difficulties. We are complex hearing loss experts
Why choose TJH?
Hearing Assessments and diagnosis for adults and children
Our clinical training and experience in the NHS means that we’ve seen some of the most complex cases in terms of diagnosis of hearing loss in adults and children, tinnitus, dementia care, children and adults with complex needs and severe to profound hearing loss.
Once we’ve measured the hearing and checked the ears, we will advise you of hearing levels and next steps, whether that be onward referral or treatment to a medical professional, tinnitus/hearing therapy or advice regarding the suitability of hearing aids.
We work and liase with GPs and other professionals including Speech and Language Therapists, ENT, Education and key workers so we can make onward referrals where necessary regarding your ear health.
We keep up to date with the latest research around hearing loss, tinnitus and hearing aids.
Impartial hearing aid advice
At Tracy James Hearing we offer an extensive range of hearing aids from different manufacturers, rather than being tied to just one or two suppliers. Being completely independent means we will always recommend the best hearing aid device for you, rather than focusing on sales. Nearly all hearing aids come with a five year warranty and free aftercare. We also offer up to four free microsuction wax removals a year or unlimited manual wax removals while your hearing aids are in warranty.
Personal service
We pride ourselves on our personal approach and we believe that this is one of the key things that sets us apart from well-known high street hearing care companies. You’ll always see the same audiologist, either Tracy or Louise, from your initial hearing test, to the hearing aid fitting, and for any follow up appointments - regardless of how often you need to see us!
Experienced audiologists
Tracy and Louise are both members of the British Society of Audiology and British Academy of Audiology and keep up to date with the latest research around hearing loss, tinnitus and hearing aids.
Tracy James and Louise Hart have sat on several UK professional committees and contributed to the field of Audiology, including creating nationally-recognised protocols and guidance (British Society of Audiology), Tinnitus guidelines and research. Both are experienced trainers in audiological competency and Tracy is a lecturer and trainer in Audiology for MSc level graduates.
Both Tracy and Louise are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and are required by law to maintain their professional development. They receive regular training about the latest hearing aid devices and software which means that they always offer the very latest solutions to TJH clients.
Does it matter where you buy your hearing aid?
Yes. The difference between a good and bad choice isn't usually the aid itself, since most are made by just a handful of manufacturers. The standard of professional fitting and the service given by the provider matters more.
It can take time to fit and adjust so that it's working to maximise your hearing. Without a careful and attentive fitting service, you could get frustrated and give up on your aid.
Satisfaction scores vary significantly based on where you buy, as 81% of local independent retailer customers were satisfied with their aids compared with 68% of customers of one of the biggest brands.
